The American Diabetes Association relies on fundraising events like Step Out to support our mission to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. Since its inception, ADA has invested more than $450 million in research projects. Here are some examples of significant American Diabetes Association discoveries made through the support and generosity of donors just like you: Invention of the first glucose meter, Oral diabetes medication to help control type 2, Introduction of more effective forms of insulin, Invention of the portable insulin pump, The relationship between nutrition and diabetes Laser treatment to prevent blindness.
While we thank you very much for your many contributions to our organization, we still have a goal of $350,000 to reach, and currently we are at $317,000. Please consider making a donation to help us reach our goal. As of October 25, we had 1,833 registered participants and 225 teams! If all participants were able to contribute an additional $20 we could easily reach our goal!
Please send all donations to:

Thank You!
As a Washington, DC StepOut: Walk to Fight Diabetes tradition we had some rain on October, 24th. But that did not stop over a thousand people from coming out to Nationals Park to show there support for the fight against Diabetes.
Over a 1,000 people came out to take a stand against Diabetes, a disease that affects nearly 425,000 people in the DC metro area. Volunteers helped the event run smoothly by graciously donating their time to check-in walkers, hand out information on the American Diabetes Association, and cheer for walkers along the route. One special guest this year was Pat Lawson Muse who served as our MC and helped get out walkers ready for the route. Also participating in the opening ceremony were Red Strider Ambassadors Ronda Keys and Erin Youngdahl as well as our 2009 Youth Ambassador Gregory Mayo.
Whole Foods provided fresh fruit and Clif bars to walkers to boost their energy and also provided water to wash it all down. Other vendors provided health information, jump ropes, playing cards and other material to keep our walkers informed and engaged.
Close by the batting cages were open to anyone who wanted to try hitting some balls. The pitching Zone was also open for those wanted to see how fast they could toss a major league ball. All of our Red Striders and Elite Feet members enjoyed the VIP area with food, photos, and massages.
A light rain fell as our walkers made the 2 mile journey around the Capital Riverfront and Nationals Park while the band Grand Theft Radio welcomes everyone at the finish line.
Thank you everyone for making 2009 such a great walk!
