National Advocacy Committee:
Diabetes Advocates are among our most passionate and dedicated volunteers. Together we fight for funding for diabetes research and for public policies to prevent diabetes and give those living with diabetes access to the care they need to prevent complications. And together we fight against the discrimination people with diabetes face at school, work, and elsewhere in their lives.
I want to take this time to thank you for the many times you've taken action, and also to invite you to join with me and Diabetes Advocates across the country on our Advocates in Action National Step Out Team! You can walk with friends and neighbors to raise funds and raise awareness in your own hometown.
As we all Step Out together, our efforts will help continue our fight for people with diabetes on Capitol Hill, in the state house, and in the courthouse!

If you have participated in Step Out in previous years, or one of the other American Diabetes Association signature events (Tour de Cure, School Walk for Diabetes or Rip's B.A.D. Ride), login with your previous username and password prior to registering. (If you do not have/remember this information, click on "Forgot Your Password?" at the top-right corner of the screen to have the information e-mailed to you.)
You have two options to become part of the National Advocates in Action Step Out Team*:
- JOIN an existing Advocates in Action team: If there is already an Advocates in Action team registered for your local event, you may join this team now. Click the REGISTER button below, search for and select your event, then click JOIN AN EXISTING TEAM atop the page. Enter the team's name (if you know it) and/or Advocates in Action in the National Team field and click SEARCH. When the team appears in the search results, click JOIN to the right of it. If no results are returned, check with your team captain for clarification. If there is no team already created for your event, then you can create your own local Advocates in Action Team. (See Option #2).
- START your own local Advocates in Action team: When you start your own team, you will become the Team Captain by default. Click the REGISTER button below, search for and select your event, then click START A TEAM atop the page. Be sure to select Advocates in Action from the National Team drop-down menu when prompted. Then invite others to join your team!
*If you are an individual that would like to walk without a team, you still must create your own local Advocates in Action team. Please note that other individual Advocates may join your team once it is created.
Now you're ready to Step Out to Stop Diabetes! You must either join an existing team, or create your own local Advocates in Action team to be a part of the overall National Team.
